Important Questions to Ask About Fishing Rods

Article by Robert Feuring

When you are purchasing new fishing rods, you shouldn’t just go into the store and pick the first rod that catches your eye. If you want the best results possible with your purchase, you need to take into consideration some important factors that should guide your fishing rods.

Here are a few questions to ask before you begin buying fishing rods.

When Do You Use Your Fishing Rods?

This is an important factor. You need to take into consideration how often you’re going to be using the equipment you buy. For example, many fishers just consider this a hobby they can do on the weekends as a way to unwind and relax. It’s not a competition. Other fishers take their fishing very seriously; some even compete in tournaments and strive to break catch records. Obviously if you are the latter then you’re going to want to choose your fishing rods more carefully. You might even want to build a custom rod. On the other hand, if you’re just a hobbyist then you’ll still want to choose carefully but you’ll be able to find something in the average online store that will meet your needs.

Where Do You Use Your Fishing Rods?

One of the big decisions you’ll want to make when looking at your fishing rods is how far you travel to reach the fishing location and how easy you want your fishing equipment to be to transport. For example, if you can simply walk to your favorite fishing hole then you’ll want to look at fishing rods that can be transported very conveniently, possibly one that can collapse into a much smaller, easier to carry piece. On the other hand, if you’ve got plenty of room you might prefer to choose a single piece fishing rod that can be placed in your trunk or stored in the garage.

What Are You Going to Catch with Your Fishing Rods?

The majority of fishing rods are designed for specific types of fish. They were built to cast a certain distance or were built to withstand the environmental differences of saltwater over freshwater, etc. You may be able to find some fishing rods that can be used for a wide range of fishing applications but you’ll probably pay more and you’ll find they don’t do as well as more specific types. Instead, go in with either a fishing location or a type of fish in mind. Look at what each of the fishing rods claims to be created for. If you do plan on fishing in multiple types of environments, go ahead and invest in multiple fishing rods. You won’t regret the decision.

Where Should I Buy Fishing Rods?

When you’re looking for fishing equipment, you’re best bet is to do some research and get a good idea of what you’re wanting. Then go to online stores with larger selections and lower prices to make your purchases. Sea Isle Tackle, for instance, is one possible location to consider.

Fishing Locations question by Jamie R.: Fishing in Santa Barbara County, California?
I am hoping to find out some information anyone can provide about fishing locations in Santa Barbara County. I have been to Cachuma but would like to look into stream and river fishing in this area. Any help is much appreciated :) Thanks all!!!

Fishing Locations best answer:

Answer by bassplayer_1313
they’re all getting dry now but there is good stream fishing in SB county. the santa ynez above cachuma usually has trout when there is enough water. it doesn’t get this dry too often. there are also bass (smallmouth and largemouth), cats and bluegill in the lower sections. there may still be enough water in sections for stocking. there are a number of deep holes. l’m not sure if the other two smaller reservoirs on the stream still allow fishing. l do think the lower one does. check with forest service or city of santa barbara.
the sisquoc watershed and it’s streams also have good trout fishing. again, check with the forest service or fish and game as to whether or not there is enough water now. there is a dfg office in SB. sorry, no rivers. not real ones with water, anyway.
lopez lake near arroyo grande has some good fishing and santa margarita lake a ways further on is one of the prettiest lakes in so cal.
finally you have lake casitas in ventura county not far from you. l consider that my home lake. l spend lots of time there. big fish in that lake.
then the ocean. lots and lots of great fishing from the piers, shore or boat. a multitude of species. and it’s all well protected by those islands. excellent halibut all along SB’s coastline as well as so cal’s best surf perch fishing.
hope l was a bit of help. feel free to email with any add’l Qs. within my limited expertise, anyway.

Everything You Need To Know About Fly Fishing Equipment

Fishing Equipment

Inside the fish house — Edisen Fishery at Isle Royale National Park, Michigan

Fishing Equipment

In the fish house, the main building in the complex, are many boat related items ranging from oars to old outboard motors that Pete Edisen used at one time.

The Edisen Fishery is a restored site where the National Park Service provides information about the commercial fishing activities that once occured on the island. Of over 50 such installations, this fishery is the last one remaining.

From the State of Michigan Historic Preservation Website:

The Edisen Fishery, located on the southern shore of the Rock Harbor in the Isle Royale National Park, is a commercial fishing complex of seven buildings. A single-story log fish house, a similar net house, sleeping cabins, privy, chicken coop, docks, and fishing equipment have been well maintained. All buildings are of log construction, covered by ship lap or tongue- and-groove board sheathing. A dory-style whale boat with an outboard rudder and a decked-over bow docked nearby is an integral part of the complex
.
The Edisen Fishery is the best continuously used example of a commercial fishery at Isle Royale. The structures and variety of fishing equipment in the complex represent the development of commercial fishing techniques on Lake Superior since the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructed between 1895 and 1934 by local fishermen, the buildings have been maintained with locally available materials. Year-round residents Peter and Laura Edisen added buildings as needed, based on strictly functional designs. While both Pete and Laura are gone now, the fishery is still operational and currently open to visitors.

Everything You Need To Know About Fly Fishing Equipment

Article by Darren Pace

Anyone who has enjoyed fly fishing for some time knows how simple this hobby can be. For a beginner, on the other hand, there are a number of things to learn about. In fact, it can be a little hard to figure out where to start. Some people tend to proceed directly to buying baits and checking out the right spots to fish. One of the most important things to prioritize is acquiring the right kind of fly fishing equipment.

The basic fly fishing gear is made up of four things. First in line is the rod. This comes in varied sizes and weights. The usual length is seven to nine feet. Most of those who have been fly fishing for years possess different kinds of rods, and each one is specifically designed for a specific purpose. Basically, there is a direct link between the rod’s size number and fly line number being used. The 2-weight rod casts a 3-weight line while the 7-weight rod casts a 7-weight line. There is a positive relationship between the rod’s size and the line’s weight. When determining the specific weight and length of the line to use, it is best to stick with what feels good in one’s hand. It helps to try out different rods before one sticks with a specific rod number.

For beginners, it is best to drop the fancy reel and go with the standard one. The latter makes it easy for one to get a better feel of the water and is also easier to control. It is important to consider the line one intends to use. Basically, the reel should be of the right size for the line, which in turn is determined by the fishing area and the fish variety one is most likely to meet in the said area. One should also learn about the two types of cranking actions. One crank is equal to a single turn of the spool while a turn on the multiplier reel means more than a single rotation, so pulling the line is faster to do. Another thing to take note of is the arbor, which is mainly the reel’s center. The size of the arbor is related to the speed of cranking. Larger arbor means lesser cranks. A quality drag system is also essential in choosing one’s fly fishing equipment. Although a spring-and-pawl mechanisms works well enough, a disk drag reel offers more control since it has two disks that rub against each for additional stopping agent.

When choosing the line, one can go through a number of choices considering the color, weight and whether the line is floating, sinking, tapered or weight forward. The most recommended one to choose is a medium weight line, which works fine for all sizes. As for the color, green is the best choice since fishes cannot see it when under the water. The leader at the end of the line should weight moderately.

Lures come in a variety of colors, sizes and shapes. The perfect one is yellow and black in color, three quarters of an inch in length, a quarter of an inch in diameter and equipped with feathers and rubber legs.

These are the topmost important details about fly fishing equipment a beginner should know. It helps to learn more and research about tips in choosing them before going out to actually buy them.

A discussion about Pompano Beach Fishing Charters and Deerfield Sport Fishing

Article by James Clerk

Florida in the good old U.S. of A. rivals that in some more exotic places like Pompana Beach fishing charters and Deerfield Sport Fishing. Blue Marlin and Barracuda are all available in Florida offshore sports while central Florida consists of mostly freshwater fish. Among the most-sought centers, these Pompana Beach fishing charters and Deerfield Sport fishing have been the pulling the interest of new fishing enthusiasts for a long time, but there are regulations that have to be observed.

Before making that trip, it is a good idea to peruse a Florida report in any major hunting and fishing magazine and also to obtain a Florida fishing license. Florida regulations are much the same as other states when it comes to fishing: there are legally protected fish such as the jewfish, sawfish, and saw shark and the use of firearms in fishing is, not surprisingly, prohibited. What is interesting is that a person who is a sixty-five year or older resident in Florida can fish without a license.

It might be that the senior crowd goes to the state for its scenery but stay for that uncomplicated Pompano Beach fishing charters. Florida charters can get no better than Two Conchs Charters in Marathon Florida. The Pompana Beach charters offers opportunities to fish for dolphin, tuna, and shark. Unlike other Marathon, both these exclusive Florida sports, this company is charged by the boat and not by passenger.

If a person cannot make it down to the Florida Keys for a little light-tackle fishing, then charters in Naples, still within the Florida peninsula provides for great fishing also. It is typically believed that Pompana Beach charters Marco island charter, at the right outside of Naples but still in South Florida is like heaven. These spot is as agreeable as the name implies. They offer 4 hour or 6-hour charter fishing trip packages at low prices. They also provide a variety in charter such as sightseeing and shelling package.

Both the Pompano Beach Fishing charters and Deerfield Sport Fishing does even more than the average charter company does when it comes to provide customers with a fishing license, bait, tackle and bottled water. A full reservation will get customers a chartered boat with electronics to monitor the weather and water. South Florida light-tackle sports was never made so easy!

Like the Pompana Beach charters and Deerfield sport fishing company does, a charter should anticipate paying customers every need and stress the fun of the experience. Whether in the Keys or on the peninsula, a charter company’s job is to enhance the fishing trip and allow the customer the chance to relax, hoping for a good catch.

Bass Fishing Secrets – Its All About Location… Location… Location…

Post by Bass Man

You have heard it a million times… individuals in actual estate say that “location…location… location” is very essential. Effectively… the exact same holds true in bass fishing. I’m here to give you some guidelines that will make your bass fishing ALOT less difficult than it has been.

If you have not however heard that “80% of the fish are caught in 20% of the water”, then I am here to tell you that THAT is a very true statement. The location that you select to fish is just as crucial as exactly where you create your residence house. There is a frequent theme to the diet of largemouth bass, and its the reality that they take benefit of edges to capture their prey.

The edges that bass use are:

Weed edges:

Numerous forms of aquatic vegetation supply prime bass habitat. No matter whether you are fishing the edges of lily pads, pondweed or milfoil, constantly look for the “spot on the spot”. The outer edges usually seem to hold fish, but look for inside turns, breaks or weed points. Several times the inside weed edge is typically overlooked and can be very productive specifically in the morning and evening. The weed edges act as a spot refuge as nicely as a place of ambush for bass. Eat and watch out so you’re not eaten.

Existing edges:

Smallmouth bass will seek spots in rivers that serve as a ambush point but also a resting point to expend as small energy as achievable. Big boulders and turns in the river are prime locations to appear for active smallmouth bass. Present can also be found in lakes. Numerous significant lakes can have present on windy days in the neck locations in channels or in in between islands. The existing often times will push in baitfish for an effortless meal. There are times that the bass can be stacked in these locations on windy days

Structural edges:

Bass will often establish a” pecking order” on the prime structures. The prime structure edges consist of fallen trees and logs, docks, bridges, marinas and so on.

Shade edges:

Shade is one of the most overlooked edges of all. Docks, even though a structure also offers a shady region away from the sun. Trees can also produce a shade edge. Early morning and evening can offer some of the ideal bass fishing in the day. 1 reason is the shade edge that is created by low sun angles behind trees and the horizon. Just think how at night when you have the lights on in your home, it is tougher to see out in the dark, but it is very straightforward to see from a dark outside to a lighted property. These edges give the bass a extremely dramatic benefit over their prey.

If you can ever combine various kinds of edges into 1 region than you have your “A” spot for fishing. Seeking these edges will present you with an benefit on finding greater success on your next bass fishing trip. I have located loads of fantastic information that could get you began on your journey of becoming an outstanding bass fisherman.
